Dealing with transition - whether it is your own or someone else's - can be one of the most challenging events in one's life. Having the support of others who can share their own experience is indispensable.

Transgender Foundation of America provides direct support to the following groups so that they may better carry out their mission of being there for one another.

Below is a list of the support groups. For more information about starting a group or existing groups, call 713-520-8586. Group attendance is free; there are no dues or fees for group membership.

HTGA


One of the oldest groups in Houston (started in 1990), Helping TransGenders Anonymous is a facilitated support group for all transgenders, supporters, family and significant others. HTGA meets every Monday night from 7 to 9 PM. More...

STAG


Some Transgenders Are Guys is one of the most dynamic FTM groups in the country. STAG is a facilitated bi-monthly group for female-to-male identified individuals, supporters, family and significant others. STAG meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 7 to 9 PM and again on the 4th Saturday of each month from 5 to 6 PM. More...

SOS


The Significant Others Support is a group that provides support to the wives, husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends of individuals whose partners are considering transition. SOS meets the 4th Saturday of each month from 3 to 4 PM. More...

TATS


Texas Association for Transsexual Support is another one of the original support groups in Houston. TATS is a professionally facilitated support group for those identifying as being a transsexual. TATS meets the 4th Saturday of each month from 4 to 5 PM. More...

TBMG


The Transgender Buddhist Meditation Group offers a traditional Theravada Buddhist vipassana 30 minute meditation for transgenders. TBMG usually meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 7 to 9 PM. More...

TRC


The Reading Cafe Book Club is a group for anyone who loves to read. While most of the books are not trans-specific, the nature of the group will inevitably offer insight into various gender themes: 3 to 4 PM every 4th Saturday.

TGTF


The City of Houston TransGender Task Force is charged by the City of Houston to ensure that transgender Houstonians are able to access the medical and social services in order to reduce the incidence of HIV within the transgender community. TGTF meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 7 to 9 PM.

CAB


The Transgender Center's Community Advisory Board is a TFA Board composed of representatives from each group. The CAB is open to all and seeks to support the overall heath and wellbeing of groups and their members. The CAB meets on the 3rd Monday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.

TGHC


The TransGender History Committee is charged with the management, preservation and interpretation of the Transgender Foundation of America's transgender archive. Individuals interested in participating in this important effort can sign up at any of the meetings located at the TG Center in Houston, Texas. TGHC meets on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 7 - 9 PM.

Friday Social*


The Friday Night Transgender Social is a special, once-a-month event hosted by the TG Center for the Houston area transgender community, supporters, family members, friends, community providers and significant others. Each themed social consists of a dinner*, movie, games and/or presentation. Friday Socials take place on the 1st Friday night of each month from 7 to 11 PM.

FGVY


The Families of Gender Variant Youth group is support group for the parents of transgender/gender variant youth (up to the age of 12) who are seeking support from others.  FGVY meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 7 - 9 PM.

HTUC


The Houston Transgender Unity Committee is responsible for the Houston TG Day of Remembrance, The Unity Banquet and the Peggy Rudd Scholarship. HTUC meets on the first Monday of every month from 6:30 to 7:30 PM  More...

   

*NOTE: The dinner costs 10 dollars. Those who are not able to afford the dinner can elect to help set up and clean up in exchange for the dinner. The Friday Social is BYOB. Alcohol may be present during the social. Beer and wine are the only alcoholic beverages allowed at the social. Doors open at 6:30 PM.
